Wound closure, surgical stapling and energy
Ethicon is the surgical technologies business of Johnson & Johnson MedTech, with a wound closure heritage dating back to 1887, when Johnson & Johnson began mass producing sterile sutures. Its operating room portfolio spans sutures and skin adhesives, powered surgical staplers, advanced energy devices, adjunctive hemostats and hernia repair meshes, used across open and minimally invasive surgery in general, bariatric, colorectal, thoracic, gynecologic and other specialties.
Wound closure runs from the VICRYL, MONOCRYL, PDS and PROLENE suture families, including Plus antibacterial variants, to STRATAFIX knotless tissue control and the DERMABOND PRINEO skin closure system. Stapling is led by the ECHELON family of powered endocutters and circular staplers. Advanced energy covers HARMONIC ultrasonic devices and ENSEAL advanced bipolar sealers, consolidated on platforms like the DUALTO Energy System, while biosurgery adds SURGICEL absorbable hemostats and SURGIFLO flowable matrix.
We distribute the Ethicon portfolio to hospitals across Mauritius, Seychelles and Madagascar, holding sutures and staplers on consignment and training theatre teams on energy and stapling platforms. The partnership has been recognized with multiple Ethicon Growth Awards.
